If I could have put any song on the ban list after 9/11 it would have been Blue by Eiffel 65. If has nothing to do with 9/11, I just really hate that song and if the people at clear channel can ban a bunch of 60s songs for no reason, why can’t I ban this song?

Not what this video is about but I wanted to say that I appreciate your openness. It is always comforting to discover that a creator I like is like me in that regard. I am still seeking the courage to open that door.

I still love revisiting this video three years later, I think it's worth interrogating why we have guilty pleasures and what still draws us to them even when they fall clear outside of our tastes otherwise. To comment on a few specific entries on the list: "Never Going To Give You Up" is just unapologetically 80s pop in its purest form and I love hearing the classic stations keeping this one well in rotation. "Drops of Jupiter" is still the best song Train has ever done imho and honestly also love when this pops up on the classic stations. And finally, I get it with both "Closer" and "Blurry": they're not only the only songs I actually like, never mind love, by the Chainsmokers and Puddle of Mudd respectively, but they're also enigmas in their respective discographies that demonstrate a weird amount of emotional awareness and how to perfectly convey those feelings in the moment. I don't know how reliable of narrators either group are for their songs, but I get it.

To me Van Halen is the Og DLR era. I tend to look at the Van Hagar era as a different band entirely. Hell they should have dropped the Halen from the name and just called the band Van Hagar. But that's just how i choose to look at it. VH3 does not exist in my mind. less said about that the better.

Looking at the list of BNA winners for the next few years, here are my takes on the next 5: Maroon 5: *NOT CURSED* The quality of their music declined considerably over the years, especially as they leaned more into pop and being the Adam Levine solo vehicle. Considering the success they had for a while, though, yea, they’re not cursed in that regard. John Legend: *NOT CURSED* He’s had quite a number of his through the years, been a critical darling, and has stayed in the media through his music, his stint on The Voice, and his relationship with Chrissy Teigen. He’s doing fine. Carrie Underwood: *NOT CURSED* Simon Cowell told her on American Idol that she’d sell more records than any other winner, and that line aged pretty well. Considering she’s maintained a status as one of the biggest female country singers in the world for the last few decades… yea, what curse? Amy Winehouse: *CURSED* Yea, this one’s pretty well-known at this point. She had the talent to go a long way, but we’ll never know what could’ve been for her. And considering two of the other nominees that year were Paramore and Taylor F*cking Swift, both of whom have gone on to become… well, what they are now, I’m glad Amy at least got to have that moment. Barenaked Ladies had two gold studio albums and one platinum live album in the U.S. BEFORE "One Week." It's fair to call them a "two-hit wonder," but completely wrong to say that "all the success they ever saw" in the U.S. were those two hits. As Troy said, "The Barenaked Ladies are triple platinum. Are you??"

It's weird to hear Crowded House called a "two-hit wonder"; in the U.S. they were, but it merits mention that they had a lot of other hits in other countries and other charts. The debut those hits are on only went gold in the UK, while their fourth went platinum and their third multi-platinum. There, the two U.S. hits struggled, being outcharted by 10 subsequent songs, with two more tying "Don't Dream It's Over"'s #27 UK showing. Their three alt-rock top tens were five to eight years after their two mainstream hits. Glad to see the enthusiasm for them, though; Woodface really should have been - in the U.S. - the hit-making machine it was in the UK.

While the 'Should They Have?' section was always redundant and should have been merged with the 'Who Won?' section from the start, I'm not really a fan of the other nominees being discussed first, before the winner is revealed. I thought that section worked better in the previous videos (when it was titled 'Who Else Was Nominated?' rather than just 'Who Was Nominated?'), where it was discussed AFTER the winner was revealed - it felt a lot more like it was part of the analysis about the winner, by comparing them (or at least, them in that time period) to who they were up against and, by extension, help provide some of the context as to whether or not the win was even deserved in the first place. Here, however, because we don't know the winner until after we've got the other contenders of the way, the section about the other nominees feels more like its own thing, and it leads to a slightly more confusing structure where, at times, it was easy to forget that the actual discussion of this video was about the winner (and specifically, whether or not they were 'cursed' after winning) and not about the category as a whole. This is just a nitpick, of course, but it kept bugging me every time it happened.

That nimrod section was the most pleasing thing I’ve saved heard. You were right on the money. It’s my favourite album by them and you pretty much hit the nail on the head why. Also Good #1 choice in Warning! Punk is going against the norm and what did green day do on warning? Go against the norm and play more acoustic songs. It pays off as arguably their most creative and one of their best albums.
